Working and living on-site
There are no seasons of summer and winter at Kansanshi. Seasons are determined by rainfall. There is one long dry season and one rainy season. Each is approximately 6 months in duration. The dry season lasts from April to September (typically). Temperatures are generally quite high with high levels of humidity. Average rainfall per year is approximately 1500mm.
Vegetation is savannah type interspersed with forested areas. Roads can become problematic in the rainy season. Evenings are cool, but daytime temperatures can rise into the mid-30’s. Warm clothes are needed, especially during the dry season for evening wear. It is advisable to bring long-sleeved shirts and long pants to guard against mosquitoes.
